Issuance of Correction Directions under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act to Mr Nicholas Tan and Aupen

1. The Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mr Edwin Tong SC has instructed for Correction Directions, under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act 2019 (POFMA), to be issued to Mr Nicholas Tan and Aupen for their publications which communicated false statements of fact concerning the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS)’s interactions with them, the stance IPOS takes towards local businesses, and the design of Singapore’s trade mark laws:
(i) Mr Tan’s Instagram stories on 9 September 2025;
(ii) Mr Tan’s Instagram post on 15 September 2025, which was also published on Aupen’s Instagram page; and
(iii) Mr Tan’s Instagram post on 16 September 2025.
2. Mr Nicholas Tan and Aupen are required to publish Correction Notices on their Instagram pages. These notices will state that the content communicated false statements of fact, and provide a link to the Government’s clarification.
