Official Visit to Switzerland by Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mr Edwin Tong SC

1. Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mr Edwin Tong SC is on an official visit to Switzerland, from 29 September to 1 October 2025.
2. On 29 September 2025, Minister Tong attended the diplomatic reception organised in support of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director General, Mr Daren Tang’s re-election campaign.
3. The Singapore Government has nominated Mr Tang for a second term as Director General of WIPO from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2032. Mr Tang is the incumbent WIPO Director General, and the first Singaporean to lead a major United Nations specialised agency. The Singapore Government strongly affirms Mr Tang’s achievements at WIPO.
4. Speaking at the reception, Minister Tong highlighted the early expressions of support that Mr Tang has received from WIPO Member States – including within ASEAN, within Africa, Belgium, France, Japan, Qatar, and the UAE. Minister Tong sought the continued support of all WIPO Member States for Mr Tang and his second term.
5. Singapore is committed to deepening international cooperation to build a robust global IP ecosystem and enhance Singapore’s position as a leading IP and dispute resolution hub.
6. Minister Tong also met with Mr Antonio de Quesada, head of arbitration services of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, to discuss matters on dispute resolution in Sport on 30 September 2025.
7. Minister Tong is accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Law.
