Official Visit to the Republic of Fiji by Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mr Edwin Tong SC

1. Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mr Edwin Tong SC will make an official visit to the Republic of Fiji from 9 to 12 February 2026, to attend the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting (“CLMM”) as Singapore’s Head of Delegation.

2. The CLMM is one of the largest international gatherings of law ministers and attorneys general focused on legal co-operation. This year’s meeting, convened under the theme ‘Anchoring Justice in Changing Tides: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future’, will bring together approximately 150 delegates from across 56 Commonwealth countries including justice ministers, attorneys general and solicitors general.

CLMM

3. On 9 February, Minister Tong will be attending CLMM plenary sessions with his Commonwealth counterparts to discuss the importance of the Rule of Law in ensuring democratic resilience. He will contribute to a discussion on the CLMM Theme Paper prepared by the Republic of Fiji, which explores the unprecedented political, social and environmental changes that our world is facing and how legal systems should adapt to maintain stability and ensure equitable access to justice for all.

4. Minister Tong will also helm a CLMM side event on 12 February, titled “The United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation – An Anchor in the Storm”. The event will showcase the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (also known as the Singapore Convention on Mediation), adopted in 2018, as a key instrument to anchor mediation as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism to address cross border commercial disputes. Minister Tong will deliver opening remarks and join a fireside chat during the event.

5. Throughout the CLMM, Minister Tong will also hold bilateral meetings with his Commonwealth counterparts to strengthen legal cooperation and explore opportunities for collaboration.

6. The Singapore delegation will comprise Ambassador for International Law Rena Lee and officials from the Ministry of Law.
